Meraki Receives Stimulus Plan Acceptance for the Industry’s Only Cloud-Based Wireless Networking Solution

Meraki’s Customers and Solution Providers can now take advantage of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) stimulus funding programs to deploy wireless networks quickly and cost effectively.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, July 28, 2009 - Meraki, the cloud-based wireless networking company, today announced that its WiFi access points have received USDA Rural Development Acceptance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Utilities Service (RUS). The Meraki equipment on the USDA Rural Development acceptance list includes the Meraki Indoor, Meraki Outdoor and Meraki MR58 access points. All accessories for these products have also received RUS acceptance. Meraki’s thousands of customers and network of partners are well positioned to qualify for stimulus funding to bring broadband access to educational institutions, unserved and underserved areas and rural communities.

“Municipalities, counties and educational agencies are seeking reliable and fast wireless broadband access that covers large areas,” said Sanjit Biswas, CEO and co-founder of Meraki. “Meraki’s cloud-based solution makes it possible for them to deliver affordable high-speed access to their users without requiring large IT or network operations departments. We’re thrilled to receive Rural Development acceptance and excited to work with communities, agencies and partners to pursue ARRA stimulus funding opportunities and provide broadband access across the country.”

Meraki’s technology is unlike any other wireless access technology currently available and significantly changes the economics of Internet connectivity. With powerful hardware and integrated cloud-based management services, Meraki is the ultimate solution in medium and large-scale wireless infrastructure deployments. Meraki’s patented networking systems and technologies enable rapid network installation and a revolutionary new model of management through cloud computing. Both of these technologies enable the creation of better WiFi networks at lower costs. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 appropriated $7.2 billion and directed USDA RUS and the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) to expand broadband access to unserved and underserved communities across the U.S., increase jobs, spur investments in technology and infrastructure and provide long-term economic benefits. The result is the RUS Broadband Initiatives Program (BIP) and the NTIA Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP). BIP will make loans and grants for broadband infrastructure projects in rural areas. BTOP will provide grants to fund broadband infrastructure, public computer centers and sustainable broadband adoption projects. More information is available at www.broadbandusa.gov. In addition, stimulus funds for technology initiatives are available from the Department of Education Recovery Act programs.
